Pictures

This is a picture of a round house from the inside, the houses that the southeastern Natives used for rituals, and ceremonies.

This is the outside of a roundhouse.

This is a picture of a totem pole that we made that represents the things that the the southeastern natives used. The leaf is there because the southeastern people lived in the forest. the rest is too small to see.

A dark day

Today will be the day that I start my medicine classes! I'll take the long rout around the wall just to make sure that that little crack isn't something that I need to worry about. Well, the wall seems to be fine, and better yet, I'm here at the place where we learn how to make medicines that can help heal the wounded, and the sick. Well, that went well. It will take some getting used to though. What thu! The village is on fire! Even worse! There are Chickasaw warriors all over the place! They must have broken in through the little crack in the wall! Looks like I made that canoe just in time! First though, I need to help fight these enemies. While some people prefer war clubs, or daggers, I prefer a bow, and arrow. I’ve improved a whole lot since my first class. Now i can hit moving targets easily. Now that I have the chance, I just can't do it. I guess that it's time for us to escape in our canoes to across the lake. Here we go! The Chickasaw warriors won't be able to follow us here. They may be able to swim, but they're no math for our canoes. We'll probably need to leave look outs when we sleep, but at least the whole tribe is safe. Bye!

Day 2

Today is a big day just like yesterday. Today is story day! My favorite story is the story of the sun's promise to our tribe. We believe that humans have a connection with spirits. Now with that done it's time to check the protective walls surrounding our village. If there's just a very small crevice an enemy could break in, and raid the village. Or a baby could crawl out. Everything seems fine except for a very small crack forming. We'll deal with that later. Now I have a little bit of free time. I think that I'll play stick ball with my friends. Wheew. A narrow win! Now I should probably work in secret on my canoe. I should get my dog to help me carry my tools to a bush that I keep my canoe in. It should be done by tomorrow, but I shouldn't rush it. All I need to do is check for leaks, and add seats, and make oars. Our people use dogs as pack animals. Here comes my little brother in his little breed cloths, and leggings. He really likes his knew moccasins. We all wear these things. Woman wear rap around skirts, made of deer skin, or woven fiber. Fortunately the winters are mild, and that summers are After all that the day is done, and it's time to move on to a new day.

My name is Liam

Like most people my age I live with my family but unlike most people, I am a Native American. I am a member of the Tunica tribe. We live in the forest, in the southeast, in thached houses. Here come some of the French. They visit here a lot since we established a trading with them. Unlike most natives we are allies, or friends with the French, and that has gotten us in trouble multiple times. Today is a big day for me. This is the day that I start my training to become a hunter, as well as a gardener. During this all of the other kids will learn the arts of being a great gardener, and how to shoot an arrow with almost a perfect aim. My mom just called me, it's time for breakfast. Ah, my favorite, some cornbread with nuts pushed into the center with fruit on the side. All it needs is a few mushrooms, and it'll be perfect! With that down I think I'll take a little nap... Alright, I am pumped! But all the same, I have to be serene as to not scare away the wildlife. Here I go! Off to my first hunting lesson. Man this is harder than I thought! Just pulling back the bow string takes a whole lot of strength! Oh well, I will get stronger, and soon be able to shoot an arrow! My dad always likes it when I'm determined like that. Well, it looks like it's time for lunch already! Good thing too, I'm famished! I hope we get a little venison, but some bear would be great! Well, looks like a compromise, rabbit, it is very delectable. It's a good thing that we use all of the meat, or even kids would need to go hunting! Oh well, at least there would be vegetables! Now I should go help in the garden with my mom. Thank goodness for that! If I couldn't do that I'd become restless to the maximum! Gardening is easier than hunting by a mile, but it takes more patients, and stamina. Dad just got home, and he says that there will be a surprise at dinner. Finally, dinner time at last! Wow! A feast for the whole tribe! Look at all of the fish, venison, rabbit, turkey, ant there's even bear! Fruit, nuts, corn, beans, squash, mushrooms, cornbread, hominy, soup, persimmon bread! I'll go to sleep a very happy person, and also I'll be gorged on all of my favorite foods. What a day!
